Hut 8 Corp is moving ahead to invest $16 million to improve water infrastructure in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. This comes amid the firm’s aim to develop its River Bend AI data center campus. The project includes a new water well, about eight miles of water main, and other upgrades. The infrastructure will reportedly be handed over to the parish after the completion in the second half of 2026. Hut 8 stated that local taxpayers will not bear any costs. Why water matters for AI infra AI data centers need a large amount of electricity and water, which is used for cooling. Hut 8 said the River Bend campus will have a closed-loop cooling system. It will help them to lower long-term water use. They will source water from outside the residential aquifer to avoid taking from the local supply. According to reports, this investment aligns with Louisiana’s $750 million Water Sector Program. The water project will address the outdated and failing water systems across the state. It has a budget of about $750 million. About $297 million will be allocated for water and sewer systems. Meanwhile, around $450 million will be pushed in later rounds. Hut 8 CEO Asher Genoot stated that “We build infrastructure for communities, not just for ourselves.” He added that at River Bend, it means strengthening the water system the parish depends on rather than straining it.” Hut 8 expects about 1,000 construction workers at peak activity. Hut 8 joins growing AI data center race The firm is reportedly positioning itself as an energy infrastructure platform. It aims to combine power generation, digital infrastructure, and compute capacity. Hut 8 Corp is running high on the bullish wave. Its price has surged by more than 422% in the last year. Meanwhile, the Hut 8 price dipped by around 17% over the last 5 days. It traded at $90.09 at the press time. Recent financial results showed that its revenue came out below analyst expectations. Hut 8’s $16 million water investment looks quite small compared with the capital commitments of major AI infra players. Biggies like Microsoft, Meta, and xAI typically focus their spending on multiple projects . This includes Power procurement, construction of hyperscale campuses and on-site cooling systems. Back in 2025, a consortium consisting of these biggies did the largest global data center transaction in history. They acquired Aligned Data Centers for $40 billion. Don’t just read crypto news.
